On this spectacular Tablelands adventure, we visit the ancient Cathedral Fig Tree. An 800 year old relic of the flora kingdom. Learn about the intricate evolution of the Giant Fig while enjoying morning chorus. Over 120 birds can be found and heard in the area.


Travelling on to Lake Barrine for some beautiful morning tea, our guide will take us on a journey through the lakeside rainforest. The chance also to enjoy a one hour lake cruise for more wildlife opportunities. Listen out for the Victorian Rifle Bird of Paradise and many other elusive creatures.


We continue on our way for a delicious seafood lunch and some Platypus spotting!


To finish off the day, we take in the fantastic panoramas of Milla Milla lookout and a nice long swim at Lake Eacham, often a highlight and a pleasant cool off. Returning to Cairns approximately 5:30pm

0730: Pickup in Cairns

Travel up the panoramic Gillies while witnessing the dramatic change in habitats as we gain altitude. Enjoy beautiful views of Goldsborough Valley from Heales Lookout 

0845: Arrive at Lake Barrine

An opportunity to grab a drink and use the bathroom before starting our guided Rainforest walk. The walk takes 30 minutes, it is 600 meters long and easy to accomplish.

Take a cruise around the lake with a local guide and learn about the histor y, flora andfauna of the region. The cruise takes one hour and is a great opportunity to spot birds, eels, fish, reptiles and other unique wildlife.

Nothing beats the home made scones with jam and cream at Lake Barrine!

Topped off with a REAL coffee or some Devonshire tea. Departing Barrine at 11:00.

1130: Arrive Tarzali Lakes for Platypus viewing and lunch

This park is the perfect way to spot Platypus. They are under conservation in the area and therefore well monitored and cared for. Learn about their elusive behavior and spot them for yourself! We stay at Tarzali for 1.5 hours. Enough time to enjoy the animals and a fancy lunch (seafood recommended).

1330: Arrive Lake Eacham

This is our chance to let our hair down and have a gorgeous swim in Lake Eacham. Surrounded by rainforest and plenty of change/bathroom facilities for swimming gear. Staying for one hour.

1500: Arrive at Cathedral Fig Tree

One of our highlights is the ancient fig tree boardwalk, a nice leisurely stroll to see an epic rainforest survivor with a very complex ecosystem surrounding it’s lifecycle.

1545: Gillies Lookout

A perfect location to finish off our wonderful day with panoramic views towards the mountains and rainforest.

1600: Depart Tablelands for Cairns

One last chance to observe the scenery of the Gillies highway as we make our way back down to sea level. Time permitting, we may stop at the Mountain View hotel for a beverage and lovely views of the Little Mulgrave River and possibly a drive through Gordonvale to view the Sugar Refinery.

1700/1730: Arrive Cairns

We’ll drop you back to your accomodation in Cairns between 1700-1730.
